WILLEMSTAD.- After about 3 months, a total of 30 participants attended different courses and last Friday they received their certificates of participation of the project: “The Economy is in our hands”. This is a project of the Ministry of Economic Development (MEO) in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Development, Labor and Welfare (SOAW) within the framework of the Urgency program. Prime Minister Eugene Rhuggenaath, MEO Minister, Steven Martina, and SOAW Minister, Mr. Hensley Koeiman delivered the certificates to the participants.

The participants were from the neighborhoods of Barber and Montaña and all the participants who started with the project finished it successfully. During the 10 sessions, the participants learned different topics among others; taxes, administration, legal aspects and marketing. This within the framework of empowering the inhabitants of the neighborhoods to formalize their ideas to start their own business.

“The Economy is in our hands”, is a project that started in the Ministry of Economic Development, in the Business Sector and in the Economic Development and Innovation Sector, to stimulate micro-entrepreneurs in the neighborhoods. The focus group is the people who have the idea of opening a business or who are already doing some business informally. The goal of this project is to train entrepreneurs to register, formalize and develop their own businesses. In this way, poverty is further combated, unemployment is reduced (especially among young people) and, obviously, a boost to our economy.

Within the framework of the Emergency Program to improve the quality of life in the neighborhoods, this project has already been implemented in the neighborhoods of Otrobanda and the trainees will put into practice daily everything they learned during the course. We send words of congratulations to all the students wishing them success in all their plans in order to formalize their own businesses.
