WILLEMSTAD – “The purchase and acquisition of the two floating platforms from Damen gives our shipyards an added value because they will procure and generate more jobs.”

At this moment, there are around 450 active employees. But according to the Minister of Finance Mr. Kenneth Gijsbertha, it is understood that for each additional floating platform there is a requirement of at least 200 additional employees, “so we must be extremely happy with this initiative.”

Instead of thinking about the retirement of employees from the company, now the company can focus on hiring more employees since there will be more activity

According to Mr. Gijsbertha, in the case of the docks, we can now speak of exportation of services. Thus there will additional benefits from the revenue they will receive for their services.

As is already known, a few weeks back Damen achieved their goal of bringing two second-hand floating platforms to Curaçao. These where bought for the purpose of expanding the repair and repair activities of the ships here in Curaçao. In the past, activities in Dock have always been high, and after a period of recession, our community will finally be able to notice more activities in this sector.

The recession period was partly due to the multimillion dollar case that a group of Cubans started against CDM a few years ago, in which the case was won by this group. CDM came to an agreement to pay them approximately 80 million dollars.
