WILLEMSTAD.- The flow of tourists in down this week demonstrated the urgent need for an active city inspection office. Tourists invaded different areas where things are not well arranged and are even messy. In other words, the cruise tourists walked in different areas that are usually hidden for them, but the number of tourists that Curaçao received in this week, calculated in a single day as 10,000, forced many of them to walk in other different areas. One reason is that they do not want to be concentrated in one place or stuck close to each other.

Along with these problems, there are also the inconveniences of public restrooms. Extra detected that in different areas there are broken streets, fallen signs and dangerous holes in different places. These holes are obviously a serious danger for our inhabitants, but also for tourists. However, it is even possible to find out if there were tourists injured or injured by this negligent situation.

Another aspect that caught the attention is the pollution in different areas. The throwing or throwing of garbage, is one of the problems surely more serious than the Center of the City suffers. In different places it can be seen that people continue to throw garbage indiscriminately, creating unfit conditions to receive tourists. In Otrobanda, for example, there are different areas in which garbage continues to be thrown despite having taken the appropriate measures. One of these areas is Frederikstraat where tourists walk to look and admire, the buildings located in this area.

In Punda it was also possible to observe areas where there was really serious garbage debris. Tourists must endure the smell in different places. At the height of the Maritime Museum where many tourists spend to shorten roads or take shortcuts and get to Fleur di Marie and Skalo, there was an unpleasant sight for tourists. In these areas there are different establishments for recently opened tourists, including places of food. In addition, this area is very popular for the amount of beautiful buildings in the neighborhood. But the route to get to them, sure is not very pretty. Actually, some garbage bins have been placed recently to collect garbage, but there is no fixed program to attend with these garbage bins. Now that the fruit ships have returned, the situation is much more would be. Selikor was called on several occasions to attend to the situation, and the cleaning work was actually carried out at a certain moment and then this area was again forgotten. Apparently, the company does not have a structural plan to address the situation they face in this area.

As regards the work of City Inspection, the status of such a function is not ready. In the past, there was this efficient figure that added an added value to the City Center. In recent years the position has loosened, due to lack of funds and disinterest on the part of the entity.

Different people in the areas of Punda and Otrobanda with which EXTRA spoke said that it is now talking about revitalizing one hundred of these areas of the city and it is imperative to bring an office with this figure of the Inspector of the Active City, which is accessible to Offer information about areas that require attention.

Meanwhile EXTRA obtained information that yesterday the area was cleaned again and new garbage bins were placed. The inhabitants expressed their gratitude for this structural cleaning of these areas, not only for visitors but also for themselves. In this area many people park their cars because of their jobs located in Punda. About this photograph, the area near the Maritime Museum that tourists had to “endure” last week to get to Fleur di Marie and Skalo. And also, a photo of how it is currently situation.
