WILLEMSTAD.- In the past months, several meetings took place between the Governor of La Guajira and his team and also Representatives of Trade Representatives of Curaçao. In the month of November 2018 the first conversations began between the Governor of La Guajira and several “interested” in Curaçao. In the conversations there were representatives of the commercial sector and of the Government, among others, the Director of Agriculture of Curaçao and also representatives of Adeck. They tried to reach an exchange of Commerce between La Guajira and Curaçao.
During the meetings that took place, different forms of cooperation between the two countries were discussed and in February 2019, the talks continued. The Governor met with his team and tried to reach a close and lasting cooperation. More than 70 businessmen participated in the meeting, which resulted in solid export agreements for the product from La Guajira to Curaçao. In the month of March 2019, the Department agreed with 6 commitments to develop the economy among the countries.
It should be noted, that the first ship with products arrived in Curaçao and today in the very early morning, there will be a ceremony in which these commercial ties will be inaugurated, which are important for Curaçao, since there is no guarantee that the products coming from of Venezuela will continue to arrive on our island, and while, the agreement with La Guajira must remain as an alternative.
