Solo exhibition of Bethyamin van Nieuwenhuizen
During the month of March is celebrated Women’s history Month and it is highlighted how women have an important impact in their community, their nation and the world.
The influence of women in their communities start during their pregnancy, their mental behavior toward their unborn child will already have an impact in their baby.
During the last 10 years, Bethyamin feels honor to be part of celebrating the welcoming of more than 700 hundred babies by belly painting or casting pregnant ladies during their Baby showers, gender reveal parties and Photo shoots.
During this sessions many time babies react to the touch of the brushes, specially the tinny ones, “it is like a hello from the other side”, says always Bethyamin.
Sometimes, She must paint baby # 1 and baby #2 of the same family, cousins or 2 friends at the same time or Rainbow babies, it is just awesome!
Therefore most of her art expression are on belly cast and her exhibition explores maternity since slavery
There are 3 pieces dedicated to this period of time when being pregnant was not a happy time but a worrisome one.
Bethyamin started to promote the Belly painting and Belly casting until it has become a new tradition in Curaçao.
This exhibition starts on March 8, 2021 at Restaurant Grand Cafe de Gouverneur de Rouville #9, Otrobanda.
