BRUSSELS.- The 27 European leaders agreed on Sunday, during a Summit in Brussels, with the bulky separation treaty and a political agreement on the relationship after the Brexit, the British departure.  The divorce decree regulates, among other things, the rights of citizens on both sides of the Channel and the settlement. The British are expected to pay a hefty 40 billion euros to meet their membership obligations. The agreement also ensures that there is no hard line between Ireland and Northern Ireland.

The British leave the EU on March 30th. After that, the negotiations about the future relationship can begin. This should be as close as possible to both parties. But, for example, fishing rights still awaits harsh debates. The agreement provides for a transitional period until 31st December 2020, in which EU legislation will continue to apply to the British and they continue to contribute financially.

The agreement must still receive the green light from the European and British parliament.
