Willemstad, 26 of August 2019 – In July of 2019 Curaçao registered a hotel occupancy of 67.6%. Compared to 2018 (69.4%) this is a decrease of 1.8 percentage points.

The average daily rate (ADR) increased with 1.6% compared to 2018, from $143.62 to $145.95 in 2019. As for the revenue per available room (RevPAR), numbers indicate a small decrease of 1.1%. The revenue per available room in 2018 was $99.74 and in 2019 it decreased to $98.62.

The Curaçao Tourist Board’s visitor arrival figures indicate a decrease in tourist arrivals from the Netherlands and Brazil in July which is clearly reflected in July’s hotel occupancy.

A hotel’s occupancy directly translates to its revenue. However, a high occupancy by itself is not a good indicator of a property’s profitability and managers must prioritize revenue management. Anticipating the decrease in occupancy, hotels may increase their ADR in an attempt to increase their revenue and profitability.

The data on hotel performance is collected monthly by STR. The figures are based on 11-14 properties which represent a total of 2500 rooms on the island.
