WILLEMSTAD.- The prices of hotel rooms do not cost double, but triple related to this year’s jazz festival. The organizers can’t do anything this year. It is true that demand increases prices. The only problem is that usually those businesses in the area, do not contribute to this magnum-event end of August, but they take advantage of it.
In the past there have already been some remarks regarding the prices that rise extremely in the area where the festival is celebrated in Piscadera. The same facilities are not at the top in the sense that they have 4 and 5 stars, which gives value to the price they charge. On that occasion it has also been said that these hotels take advantage of this period, which is usually a quiet period. It is about addressing this issue, but there has been no success. This year taking into account that the list of presentations is more impressive and considered the most attractive compared to recent years, the interest is enormous. This puts the same pressure to get a room near the event to increase and also the prices go up to the “sky”. Sources of the organization announced that they can’t do anything against this situation. One more aspect that plays a role, is that the Marriot does not open before the end of August which surely also influences more, since 300 rooms will not be ready on time.
The interest this year is huge in the different markets where the event is promoted. The list is considered as indicated exceptionally; and there are still missing artists and large groups to advertise. With some already signed the corresponding contracts, with the others it has been anticipated that the contracts will be ready next week.
The markets within which there is greater interest are the markets of the Dutch Caribbean, such as Aruba, Bonaire and San Martin. Other markets in motion action would be Colombia, which now has more flights, Brazil, Suriname and the Netherlands. From the United States there is also a growing interest for a festival that, as things are projected, will seem to beat in audience records.
