WILLEMSTAD.- Instruction for the government in Willemstad is not on the agenda of the Kingdom Council of Ministers today in Holland. According to different sources, today the Council of Ministers of the Kingdom will not make a decision regarding the Instruction on Curaçao. The Committee for Financial Supervision (Cft) sent a letter to the Council of Ministers of the Dutch Kingdom recommending imposing an instruction on Curaçao. According to Cft, the Kingdom has to act because of the problems that Curaçao is facing with its budget. Cft is worried since 2016. In the years 2017 and 2018 together, Curaçao knew a deficit. Because of this, Cft advised to impose an instruction. Today there will be a meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Netherlands, together with the Plenipotentiary Ministers of Curaçao, Aruba and San Martin. It was not known why the topic was not included in the agenda of the meeting yesterday.

In his letter of April 1st Cft said, that related to the possible instruction he would be very positive, if Curaçao could present his financial plans. The Secretary of State for the Relations of the Kingdom, Raymond Knops last week, during his visit to Curaçao indicated that in his opinion Curaçao and the Netherlands together must take the “correct measures”. According to Knops, the Dutch government has ‘a good relationship’ with the Rhuggenaath Cabinet and for a long time he has been aware of Curaçao’s financial plans. Also, he explained that he understands that the crisis in Venezuela has a huge impact on the economy of Curaçao. For that reason, the “right measures” should be taken for the welfare of the country, said Knops.
