WILLEMSTAD.- Part of the report of the “Budget Review Committee”, a report prepared at the request of the Government of Curaçao, is public. The report makes mentioning of the measures that must be taken and one of the most striking aspects is the fact that the report mentions the evidence that there is a lack of decision making and capacity in the execution of the level of Government. Our Ministers chose to write down the expenses, but not the necessary decisions to really lower the expenses of the government.

The Government leaves instituted a Committee to analyze, what must take place to lower the expenses of the Government. The Committee analyzed the government apparatus and concluded that the Government failed to take measures. On many occasions, even though the Council of Ministers made certain decisions, very little or nothing was implemented by the Ministers to lower costs. It is obvious that there is a lack of capacity for execution both at the level of governance and also operational.

In the last public meeting held in Parliament, the Minister of Finance explained some aspects of this report, such as OB, which will be increased to 9% and with respect to SVB, raise the rate with 15%. Create spaces for civil servants to voluntarily retire with a pension. According to the report, if you choose the group that was born between 1957 and 1960, the government becomes 50% less. If this is achieved, for the coming years, they will not be able to include any other person in the governmental apparatus. Well, the government apparatus is too big now.

Some other points that draw attention is the increase in the age of the pension to 66 years and also the period of personal risk when someone gets sick raise it from 3 to 5 days. It should be noted that this is a technically complicated report and the report also states that it’s only intended for the Minister of Finance of Curaçao since if others read this report they can intercept it and interpret it backwards, since they do not have it.
