WILLEMSTAD.- Delegations of the Parliament of Curaçao, Aruba and San Martin deliberated yesterday with members of the Dutch Parliament, who are part of the Kingdom Relations Committee. The meeting, as EXTRA pointed out last week, was behind closed doors. According to the President of the Parliament of Curaçao, William Millerson, the meeting was very fruitful. Millerson explained that most politicians in the Netherlands cannot understand the great impact that the crisis in Venezuela has on Curaçao.

Millerson explained that Curaçao knows many problems related to the situation in our neighboring country. For example, business between the two countries has dropped drastically, there are no tourists coming from Venezuela and the refinery is not working because of lack of oil. Another point that the delegation of the Parliament in the Netherlands stipulated, was that in Curaçao there are too many unemployed people, but more and more Venezuelans come to Curaçao to work and accept a salary far below the legal one. This obviously generates consequences in the community.

Next week, Tuesday, April 23, the Dutch Parliament will debate with the Secretary of State for the Relations of the Kingdom, Raymond Knops regarding the situation in Venezuela. According to Groenlinks party Parliamentarian Nevin Ozútok, the Dutch government has to do more for Curaçao and the other countries of the Kingdom that have problems as a result of the crisis in Venezuela. Knops so far emphasized that Holland helps, but that Curaçao has its own responsibility too. William Millerson will stay in Holland until next week. He will be present during a meeting in Holland.
