The Minister of Justice, Mr. Quincy Girigorie signed a contract on behalf of the government with the telecommunications company UTS, as the company that will procure the transmission of signals from surveillance cameras. This is a goal to raise the security of the community and give the Police Body of Curacao one more instrument to combat crime and influence the behavior of our community.

After extensive testing with two local telecommunications companies, the government finally chose UTS as the company to facilitate surveillance in different parts of Curacao with the cameras. The expectation is that after 6 months they will connect the cameras with the police monitor room. They will sell a much larger amount next to the current amount of 33 cameras. This achievement will contribute to more public surveillance and control over traffic.

The surveillance will be expanded as planned in phases 1 and 2 in different strategic points of Curacao. The surveillance cameras will be implemented at 16 different points of interest, the essential streets where there is a lot of traffic. All signs will be placed on a special network dedicated to the project that has a high degree of safety and quality. If everything goes according to plan, the installations of the cameras will be finalized by the beginning of 2019.

The Minister of Justice, Mr. Quincy Girigorie is very satisfied with this step forward. Surely checking that the current cameras are giving positive results among others in the solution of criminal cases. Well now that they expand the number of cameras, the police will get more observation on the streets of the island.
