WILLEMSTAD – The plan of the Dutch political party PVV of Geert Wilders to extradite criminals of Aruba, Curaçao and Sint Maarten back to their islands did not get enough support in the Dutch parliament. Various parties in the Second Chamber were upset with members of the PVV who did not take criticism and suggestions from the State Council seriously.

The Council says among others that the plan does not reach its goal and is against the law because it makes distinction between the Dutch people. Even so, PVV submitted its law for vote in the Dutch parliament and there was no majority quorum for its approval.

The three autonomous islands themselves have laws that make demands for the Dutch who wish to live on the island. The Netherlands must also make demands in the Dutch Caribbean. This is what PVV considers. The proposed law encompasses that they would send back all the Arubians, Curacaons and San Martians immediately if they are condemned in Holland. This law counts for all ages and also counts if a person, for example, gets a sentence of one day, work sentence of juvenile. The parties CDA, SP, PvdA and SGP currently do not see more opportunity to negotiate with the governments of Aruba, Curacao and Sint Maarten.

Second Chamber member Ronald van Raak (SP) wants clarification from the Dutch Government if Aruba, Curaçao and Sint Maarten possibly have a policy to place young people who have no future or cannot be maintained, in an airplane for Holland. Therefore: “We don’t need a law for this but purely political agreements.”
