WILLEMSTAD.- Minister of Infrastructure Mrs. Zita Jesus-Leito gave the order to re-install the gate at the Baoase in Marie Pampoen. This order was given after a group of approximately 150 protesters tear the gate down claiming that it’s illegal. There’s nothing illegal. The Baoase has its ground lease and that must be respected, says the minister in an interview with the EXTRA.
The case caused great commotion among the tourists and local employees in the resort. We really regret what happened, says the minister. She also explained that she’s not against the protest because this a very healthy sign of democracy. But in this case the permits are there and therefore she doesn’t approve of the destruction that was caused on private property. The group of protesters broke the gate and went inside the resort. This is what the minister condemns fiercely.
