WILLEMSTAD – The Curaçao Police Force has taken note of cases of verbal aggression and lack of respect towards police officers. Therefore, the Police Force wants to send a clear message to all those who believe that they can take to the streets above the law and do not respect the rules and authority, to tell them “that they will not tolerate any lack of respect or verbal aggression against the police agents”.
According to police spokesman Imro Zwerwer, despite the fact that these days there are not many peculiarities happening on the streets, the public order maintenance team still takes to the streets and exercises different controls in all places to maintain public order.
He pointed out that they are active again and they are controlling the streets at every moment of the day. He explained that at the moment if there is control or if a policeman passes by and tells a citizen that he must leave the site he must comply without arguing. Zwerwer thinks that many times the conversation or the discussion brings conflict and things can get out of hand.
Later the spokesman announced that many arrests are taking place because people are not following orders or obeying the police.
This is logically not acceptable and the police act immediately.
Zwerwer also spoke of lack of follow-up of the police order.
According to the spokesperson, at the moment the police gives an order and the suspect does not comply, consequences are also generated.
For example, at the moment when the police tell a citizen that they have to go, do not argue, do not resist, simply comply with the order.
With regard to the street races, the police have a lot of attention and put strong pressure on those who do this on public roads.
The spokesman explained that if they have a complaint about any situation or if a citizen does not agree with what the police do, they are always welcome to give their complaints
