According to internal rules of the Prison.

WILLEMSTAD.-A possible disciplinary punishment hangs over the head of Gerrit Schotte in prison, because he spoke to the press. According to the Director of the Prison Mr. Urny Florian, since 2010, detainees have been very clearly indicated that there is an explicit prohibition within the jail on the fact that the inmates cannot have any contact with the press.

In days gone by, Schotte called a radio station where he talked about his situation inside the prison, explaining how he is inside.

Mr. Florian said that when a detainee speaks by telephone with the press, they are going against the internal rules and can therefore get a punishment. When this happens, an investigation is done first and then the Prison Directorate decides what punishment will be imposed on the detainee. In this case, Schotte spoke on the telephone from his cellblock.

The prison rules state that detainees are strictly forbidden to have contact with the press through their telephone without authorization from the Director. It is also important to remember that the phones in the block or area only serves one purpose, that detainees can communicate with their families.
