WILLEMSTAD.- Four months have passed and the Public Prosecutor’s Office (OM) has not managed to sell the airplane used in a drug trafficking case. Last February 21, OM once again placed the plane on auction, because the buyers of December 2017 did not comply with the payment of that auction.
In the second auction held on March 17, the plane was offered for the sum of 680,000 thousand $. But after the second auction, OM still failed to sell it.
In statements to Extra, the spokesman of the Prosecutor’s Office, Norman Serphos reported that they have some interested parties who made an offer. But OM considers that the proposed sum very low. However, OM sees a light at the end of the tunnel, indicating that they will reach a final sum in which both parties will be satisfied in the purchase-sale of the plane.
On the question about the negotiation price, Mr. Serphos did not want to go into detail.
The aircraft is a “Challenger 601-3A / ER” type of 1989 with two turbo engines and 11 seats for passengers with an American registration. This plane was confiscated for transporting 289 kg of cocaine in 2016.
In December 2017, the plane was first put up for auction and the the amount of 700 thousand dollars won the bid.
As reported, the winning bidder had to pay an initial amount but never did not do so. This forced the Prosecutor’s Office to make a second auction last February of this year.
For the second auction the amount of 680,000 thousand dollars, that is, 20,000 thousand dollars below its original price was offered. A total of 33 people submitted their offers to buy this plane.
In both cases, the auction began for the sum of 100,000 thousand $. As OM indicated they are still negotiating a fair price for the aircraft.
