WILLEMSTAD.- Yesterday, two days after the Financial Supervisory Board (CFT) gave its reaction and called the Government’s attention to its lack of compliance with the agreements, the Evaluation Committee on the Law of the Financial Supervisory Realm, issued a reaction that is not very encouraging for the Government of Curacao. This is how the Secretary of State for Internal Affairs and Relations of the Kingdom, R. Knops, addressed a letter to the President of the Second Chamber in the Netherlands, under the topic: Offer of the Council of the Evaluation Commission on the Law of the Kingdom of Financial Supervision of 2018. In his letter the president explained that on October 1, 2018, an evaluation commission was instituted on the Law of the Financial Supervision Kingdom 2018. The Evaluation Commission has as its task, to formulate a council as indicated in Art 33 subsections 6, 9 and 10 of the Law of the Kingdom of Financial Supervision of Curaçao and Sint Maarten. And through this, the commission’s advice is offered.

The Evaluation Committee concluded that Curaçao and Sint Maarten with respect to budget years 2015 to 2017, did not comply with the norms stipulated by the Laws of the Kingdom of Financial Supervision. The Evaluation Committee concluded that it must continue with financial supervision for both countries and that it does not justify that, based on the Law of the Kingdom, these do not fulfill their obligations. The Evaluation Commission gave five recommendations to the countries, in order to be able to make progress towards the next evaluation.  The president says in his letter that on the basis of the advice of the Evaluation Committee of the Council of Ministers of the Kingdom, the continuation, limitation or conclusion of the Financial Supervision in Curaçao and Sint Maarten is decided. This decision will be taken based on a Decree of the Kingdom and will be published in a State newspaper in the Netherlands. Finally, the president said that at the moment in which one or another is official, the Second Chamber will be informed of the results of one or the other.
