WILLEMSTAD. – The Central Bank of Curaçao and Sint Maarten (CBCS) and the Minister of Finance reports that the controlled run-down of the activities of Girobank NV will continue in accordance with the announcement thereof during the CBCS press conference in December 2019. The CBCS and the Minister of Finance are working together towards a solution for depositors.

This solution will be implemented during a transition phase. The interests of the Girobank staff will be duly taken care of while handling the solution mentioned. On Tuesday, December 10, 2019, the CBCS has frozen all assets that were at the end of that day in the books of Girobank (moratorium). However, amounts up to a maximum of NAF 10,000 have remained freely available. Also, any amounts that were deposited in an account after setting of the moratorium, have remained freely available. This caused that the number of

frozen accounts were reduced from about 27,000 to about 2000. The depositors of Girobank can continue to use their withdrawable credits without prejudice.
