WILLEMSTAD.- Last Saturday the 7 diving schools affiliated with CASHA joined forces to clean up the reef under the pier at the Tug Boat. A total of 48 divers took part in the action and 358 kilograms of waste were removed from the water. This will be collected free of charge by Selikor on Monday.
During the recent renovation works on the pier, a lot of rubber, iron and other construction waste ended up in the sea. Especially the rubber is very harmful to the reef. After all, it suffocates everything it lands on and no coral can grow up as is the case with iron. But of course, not only the rubber was removed from the water, but also the iron, bottles and a lot of fishing line.
CASHA thanks all the divers who participated in getting the reef beautiful again. She also thanks Coca-Cola for the tent and Firgos for the environmentally friendly cups.
