WILLEMSTAD.- "I have to say that I see a lack of unity within our community, people are very divided, I am of the opinion that we must begin a process of reconciliation to fix Curaçao," according to the former Prime Minister Ben Whiteman. He decided to run for the position of political leader of the party Pueblo Soberano. The party recently opened a period for interested members to register for this position. The registration period will end at the end of September. "An election will be organized in the first period of October. We must achieve more cooperation from the community in order to combat the problem, we must change, in my opinion, the political direction that we have now.” According to Whiteman, there are many people convinced that we must change direction. "When I walk on the street, I meet many people who ask me when I will return to politics, people say they want to hear my voice once more."
So far Whiteman has not heard anything about the registration of other candidates. As of the end of last year, Pueblo Soberano opened a period seeking for potential as new political leader for the party. This period closed in January of this year, but no interested member showed up.
Pueblo Soberano has a seat in the Parliament of Curaçao. Jaime Cordoba is the member of the Parliament for the party. For almost over a year, Cordoba declared that he wants to retire as leader of the party. Mrs. Ruthmila Larmonie-Cicilia that was the no. 2 on the list during the last election, left the party immediately after the last election. Recently she was designated as leader of the PNP party.
