WILLEMSTAD.- The member of Parliament, Charles Cooper of the MFK Fraction believes that to help alleviate the traffic problems on Caracasbaaiweg, the expropriation of parts of certain lands can possibly be considered. This will serve the interest of the general public. Otherwise open e new discussion with the owners and try to reach an agreement. During the public meeting of the Central Commission to discuss the government's handling of the beaches, Cooper presented his opinion on the matter of expropriation or going to the Court. During Cooper’s mandate, one of the areas pin pointed for an expropriation process, was the Schotborg family's land next to the Seaquarium.
This land runs all the way to the coast and hinders the development. For example, a road could be built along the shore that would help alleviate the traffic problem on Caracasbaaiweg. But he knows that the issue of expropriation is a very sensitive issue. It is a heavy measure, but at the same time it solves a problem of general interest for the country. The government has already made an attempt once, but a citizen went to court and sued the government and won the case. Cooper believes that we should consider again taking that step, since the situation now is different. Maybe an agreement could be reached to build a road that would ease traffic on Caracasbaaiweg instead of expropriation.
