WILLEMSTAD.- Yesterday, the new structure of Girobank was made known to the workers. It was also a difficult day because the staff was informed which functions will continue and which will disappear.

Department by Department was visited to inform workers about the changes that will occur in the structures of each of the Departments. Various employees were informed that they will have to leave since their functions will cease to exist. This generated a painful moment and a lot of sadness.

For the last two weeks, the Management of Girobank made an offer for those interested to take voluntary retirement. The workers who received the news that their functions in the bank will cease to exist can make use of this voluntary retirement although the fiscal arrangement are still unknown.

The bank for a long time had already announced that in the framework of reorganizing the internal situation required to reduce the staff of between 60 to 70 people. Girobank has been under the supervision of the Central Bank for 5 years due to the solvency problems of the bank, that is, the ability of the bank to fulfill its obligations in a long term.

The subsidiaries of Giro in Colón, Otrobanda and La Confianza in Punda have already been closed. Girobank also closed its only branch in Bonaire and does not do any business on the BES Islands.
