WILLEMSTAD - During the meeting of the Central Commission of Parliament yesterday, the Minister of Economic Development, Steven Martina announced that the Government is giving a lot of attention to KTK's work abroad According to Martina: "In various commercial missions we have done, KTK has participated. Because of my status as Minister and part of the Government policy I instructed that KTK go as a commercial mission in the business part. And so I can say that at this moment that a MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) has already been signed with Cuba and St. Eustatius. At the moment, we are trying to reach an MOU with Trinidad and Tobago. Next week a delegation will fly to Trinidad and Tobago. I will be participating in it to verify that we can help in the work that KTK is going to carry out abroad in the different countries.” Martina reacted to parliamentarian Yaël Plat's question regarding KTK. As is known, there is a lot of unrest in the workers of the KTK. Three weeks ago they organized an urgent meeting during working hours. The reason being that the Venezuelan president, Nicolas Maduro decided to prohibit the fruit, vegetable and fish boats from leaving the Bolivarian country to come to Curaçao for trade. The situation in the International Court that allowed ConocoPhillips to seize Venezuela's oil has also made the situation even more difficult. There are virtually no movements in the port for several weeks already. Thus Minister Martina recognizes the urgent need for KTK to find more jobs.
