WILLEMSTAD.- American authorities CDC (Center for Disease Control) have, for quite some time now, dedicated themselves to investigating different cases of infections with E. coli bacteria. E. coli is a bacterium that normally lives in the guts of animals and if consumed by human that can cause constipation, belly pain, diarrhea / colic, fever and vomiting. The American authorities have discovered various cases of infections with different bacteria since 2017, but were not yet sure of the origin of the bacteria. There were 32 cases registered in the United States, of which 13 required hospitalization. Since they are not sure of the origin of the bacteria, it is recommended in the United States not to consume any type of romaine lettuce, romaine salad or products containing Romain salad within its components. GMN has instructed all establishments that import or sell Romain salad to stop the importation and / or sale, immediately until further notice. Since November 22, workers of the department of Technisch Hygienische Zorg of GMN, have started to carry out a control in places that sell consumer products regarding sales of Romain salads. With this action, the GMN Ministry continuous to work on improving the welfare of the community of Curaçao.
