JUDGE GIVES GREEN LIGHT TO WECHI PROJECT

Komparti:

WILLEMSTAD.- Yesterday ‘Fundashon Kas Popular’ (FKP) and the VVRP Minister won the case of LAR against ‘Amigu di Tera’ and ‘Fundashon Defensa Ambiental’ . They filed a case against the construction of houses in Wechi.

The Minister of VVRP, Mrs. Zita Jesus-Leito told EXTRA that she feels extremely happy with the decision and hopes that the work can resume quickly on the grounds of Wechi. "The permit to construct 62 houses was obtained and we are busy with the designs so FKP will be able to start construction work on the houses."

While the case was underway in Court, both the FKP and the government avoided any work on the land to build the houses until a decision was made in the case. The plan now recovers life again.

It is a sustainable and balanced development that will be taken into account with modern methods, which will try to build houses and care for nature as well as possible. There is a long way to go and a lot of work to do. The way in which Minister Jesus-Leito visualizes Wechi's project is to build a neighborhood that involves different types of families and houses at the same time.

"Wechi's project took into account the environment and nature, which is definitely a more modern method to achieve much more with respect to nature since it simply belongs to us and is ours."We respect everything and everyone who are concerned about the environment, and together we can work to arrive at a satisfactory product and way of life. I am satisfied that we can continue to build, but we must balance the project and involve the people and all those who are concerned. We all must unite and achieve development for Curaçao.

Wechi has the social aspect, work, technical plus housing. It has many aspects that will give Curaçao progress in the area of the development of our infrastructure. The ruling granted the environmental organization the right to appeal to the Court and appeal this ruling within the next 6 weeks. On this aspect, the Minister noted that organizations have the right to appeal the ruling, but the development of Wechi must continue its course forward.

Extra went back in its archives, since August 20, 2014, work began on cleaning the area of the land to begin with the first phase of construction of the 62 houses referred to.
