El presidente de Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, convocó el jueves a un simulacro de preparación ante desastres naturales o conflictos armados, tras una serie de sismos que sacudieron al país y en medio del despliegue militar de Estados Unidos en el Caribe.
Varios temblores, dos de ellos de magnitud 6,2 y 6,3, sacudieron buena parte de Venezuela entre el miércoles y la madrugada del jueves y, pese a que no causaron víctimas, asustaron a una población poco habituada a estos fenómenos.
El mandatario convocó para el sábado a partir de las 09H00 locales (05H00 GMT) un simulacro para la "preparación del pueblo ante catástrofes naturales o ante cualquier conflicto armado que pudiera haber", al aludir las "amenazas" de Estados Unidos.
Maduro pidió convocar a las escuelas y liceos al simulacro, así como los empleados del sistema hospitalario. "Para que nos permita prepararnos para cualquier circunstancia", dijo durante una cadena obligatoria de radio y televisión.
"Los movimientos sísmicos (...) fueron fuertes", añadió Maduro.
Los temblores se sintieron con mayor fuerza en los estados del oeste del país, como Zulia, fronterizo con Colombia.
En Caracas, 700 km al este de la capital de Zulia, al menos dos temblores se sintieron con intensidad. El más fuerte y prolongado hizo estremecer algunos edificios y llevó a muchos habitantes a bajar a las calles alrededor de la medianoche, constataron periodistas de AFP.
"Felizmente no se han reportado pérdidas humanas", dijo más temprano la vicepresidenta Delcy Rodríguez.
Rodríguez indicó que se produjo un "enjambre sísmico", como se define a una cadena de temblores registrados en una misma zona en un período corto.
En siete horas hubo 10 sismos y 21 réplicas con magnitudes desde 6,3 a 4, según la Fundación Venezolana de Investigaciones Sismológicas (Funvisis).
Se trata de los sismos más fuertes sentidos en Venezuela desde 2018 cuando un temblor de 7,3 estremeció varias ciudades.
