I am sad to hear this news. I met Nel many years ago, late 70's early 80's in Curacao. I visited his sculpture garden where he lived amongst his art with his then wife Norva and daughters. In fact, he named one of his daughters for me. We maintained a great respect for each other as artists of Africa and the diaspora. He was a proud man and a consummate artist and integrity.
My condolences to all his family and friends.
