WILLEMSTAD.- Soon the Prime Minister of Curaçao Eugene Rhuggenaath will be in the United States in order to carry out very important deliberations. To be more exact, next week he will be in Washington. It’s a trip that was pending for quite some time. Last year, he had to combine this trip with a visit to New York for the General Assembly of the United Nations, but at that time, he had to cancel it due to other priorities, says Mr. Rhuggenaath. In your opinion, now is the best time to iron since the iron is hot. Now that it has more and better cooperation, now when the United States understands our interests and the opportunities it also means, to cooperate with a solid partner like Curaçao in the Caribbean; It is now the most opportune moment to have these conversations.

During this visit, the Prime Minister will talk to senior officials of the State Department, such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, US Treausure which is the Ministry of Finance, which sought to obtain a special license for Curaçao, in order to keep the refinery operational without imposing any sanctions.

Afterwards, he will talk with members of the American Congress that can be considered the bosom and chain of power in Washington. He will also have talks with regional and international entities such as the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). The latter is an extremely important institute in the Caribbean, since it finances economic and social development and generates a better future in different areas of the world, including here in the Caribbean. Here you will also see the enormous opportunities that Curaçao has to offer. By the way, during the talks that Rhuggenaath held last week with Minister Blok in charge of the International Relations within the Kingdom, it was agreed to promote Curaçao as a developing country. With this, financing can be opened for economic and housing projects, social development etc. According to Rhuggenaath, this is a first step but it is an essential part of the route that the Government has been taking with the United States to strengthen relations for the benefit of Curaçao.
