WILLEMSTAD.- The Council of Ministers of Curaçao will meet today in an extraordinary meeting related to a letter that the Council of Financial Supervision (CfT) sent last week. CfT is worried about our economic situation. In the letter, Finance Minister Kenneth Gijsbertha is urged to draw up a list of urgent measures in a short time. Yesterday, Minister-President Rhuggenaath explained to EXTRA "That we, as a Government, take CfT's letter very seriously".
Yesterday Gijsbertha explained to different media outlets, that he and Rhuggenath will to go to Holland to discuss with Prime Minister, Mark Rutte all the aspects related to the economic situation of Curaçao and the letter of Cft. Yesterday at the end of the day the panorama changed. According to Rhuggenaath together with Gijsbertha they are willing to go to Holland; "But we have not planned a visit yet, our focus as a cabinet is initially focused on replying to the letter of Cft." With this, Rhuggenaath wants to try to convince the Council and afterwards decide to go to Holland.
Today during a meeting of the extraordinary Council of Ministers, the cabinet will come together. "We are focused on answering and reacting to the letter received from Cft. We will send a reply that will be well argued, and that will consist in keeping all the agreed action points with all the Ministries. As is known, all the Ministries must bring their measures within the framework of the current financial situation.
Cft wants a reactions from Gijsbertha no later than September 12, on the recommendations sent. If Gijsbertha's response is not satisfactory, Cft may inform the Council of Ministers of the Kingdom and request to exercise some instruction against Curaçao.
As a recommendation Cft has different points. Gijsbertha must present new measures in order to obtain extra income or a reduction of expenses for a total of 82 million guilders. As consequence there will be a change in the budget for the year 2018.
