WILLEMSTAD - Skuchami workers have entered their second day of action at the headquarters of their union. The workers want the government to explain to them what they want to do with this foundation that helps people with mental problems.
Today the workers returned again to the headquarters of ABVO according to mr. Gregory Wilson. For more than 18 years, workers say they have not seen any kind of advancement in the institution and now the existence of the foundation is in danger due to the reduction of the subsidy by the government.
Mr. Wilson explained how the subsidy works. “The subsidy is a headache because this means that the institute, must be in charge on its own and the subsidy from the government is just an aid.”
In this organization Skuchami and others, there is no other income and consequently the Institute depends exclusively on the government.
"From where does an institute like this generate income. Mental health care is the responsibility of the government. Every time the government reduces the subsidy amount, it contributes that adequate care cannot be provided effectively and if it is, it is a reduced care for the patient,” according to Mr. Wilson ".
There are 30 workers and are tired of this situation. For almost 18 years promises have been made. Every time the government asked the workers to return to their jobs and afterwards these promises have been broken. They want clarity and because of this will at ABVO headquatrters.
"Just as the government takes measures for other situations, we want to know what measures it will take with Skuchami."
The intention of the workers is to get a meeting with Minister Koieman and Camelia-Romer since these are the two Ministries under which Skuchami falls.
