WILLEMSTAD.- The developments continue with respect to the Central Bank of Curaçao and St. Martin. The information gathered by Extra indicates that last week St. Martin as co-owner of the Central Bank approved the appointment of the two directors for the Institute.
Last week the Council of Ministers of St. Martin approved the appointment of Mrs. Leila Matroos-Lasten RA and José Jardim as Directors of the Central Bank of Curaçao and St. Martin, respectively, according to sources from the sister island to EXTRA. The Minister of Finance Mr. Kenneth Gijsbertha confirmed this report for our newspaper. Since June 13, 2018, Curaçao approved the appointment of Matroos -Lasten and Jardim, and only waited for the pronouncement of St. Martin.
After this happened, both directors must swear before the Governor of Curaçao and the Governor of St. Martin. Soon the condition of Interim for the two directors will be withdrawn. The swearing in front of the Governors could take place this or next week.
For several months now, both Matroos and Jardim were performing on an interim basis, after the previous directors Mr. Gerald 'Jerry' Hasselmeyer and Drs. Alberto 'Chos' Romero went on pension leave. Mrs. Matroos-Lasten took the position of Hasselmeyer as Secretary Director, while Jardim took the position that Romero left behind as Financial Economic Director of the Central Bank.
Regarding the appointment of a president to the Board of Directors, the situation is not ready. There were some potential candidates, but no agreement was reached with any of them. Several points as understood by Extra, played an essential role among which was highlighted; the salary that is offered to the candidates for the post of president of the Central Bank. Curaçao has one of the oldest Central Banks in the Kingdom that enjoyed world renown. The new Management has already demonstrated that it is transiting the innovation route, bringing the Institute closer to its people.
