Willemstad.- "Selikor has debts, but the Government also has certain debts to Selikor, and the Government began to pay part of those debts in 2018. “We have decided to pay this year as well, which is the reason why we have started the process already, to pay Selikor. " So the Minister of Health, Environment and Nature, Suzy Camelia-Römer said yesterday, during the Press Conference of the Council of Ministers.
Camelia-Römer explained that the Government on Monday, deposited an amount of 3.7 million on the Selikor account. This was an important reason for the Selikor workers to paralyze the strike in the afternoon, which began on Monday very early with the closure of Parera Street. According to the Minister, it was already known to Selikor that the money was in process: ... "I was surprised when 3.7 million guilders became a conflict, I was surprised because they were already in process to be paid." The Minister also explained that the fact that they were deposited this quickly, is proof that said payment was already in process. ”Otherwise, the Government would never have been able to deposit such a large amount so precipitously. People believe that we are a group of "pranksters" to manage to deposit such a huge amount of money. Well, let me tell you that I am not a "joker." We would never have been able to deposit this amount so quickly, normally, this would take time.”
The Minister explained that in 2016 the Government confirmed to Selikor that the work of the "sewer system" fell under the functions of Selikor. Suddenly, a discussion arose about whether it was necessary to create a public contract or if the work could be left with Selikor. The day in which Selikor became independent, the sewer works were delivered to Selikor N.V. As a consequence of this, Selikor N.V. has people in fixed service to perform these jobs, so it is not necessary then to create a public procurement in this regard. Part of the money the government owes to Selikor is for sewer works.
