Komparti:

The approximately 100 invitees were welcomed by the CEO of the AAH, Cenaida C. Panneflek.  During her welcome she indicated the desire to not only inform those present on the 2018 accomplishmentsof the AAH, but also inspire them to deeply engage and collaborate in success, quality and safety of health care in Curacao considering that it does not matter how cautious you are, how many protocols you have and live by, medical institutions in general and hospitals specifically, are and will remain the place with high level of casualties.  Last November, Forbes business magazine reported that hospital medical errors are the 3rd leading cause of death.  And the most common preventable errors are – among others: medication errors, poor communication and infection.

One of the highlights of her welcome was the announcement that on Friday March 22, 2019 the AAH received the wonderful news that the Laboratory of AAH has been ISO accredited.

The Minister of Health Environment and Nature Mrs. Susanne Camelia-Römer gave the keynote address in which she applauded the wholeness approach towards health of the AAH and also emphasized the importance of the role of both the AAH and the CMC in complementing each other as they proved health to the community of Curacao.

The first speaker of the evening Mr. R. Le Blanc, president Laboratorio de Medicos expounded on the concept of quality and Value Based Health.  His presentation was entitled Quality Improvement:  Organizational Perspective, The Journey.

The second and main speaker was Dr. P. Fa-Si-Oen, chairman of the Quality and Patient Safety Committee of the AAH.  He expounded on the goals of the AAH such as:

  2. Continuity of care for the patient

  3. Identification of the patient throughout the treatment chain

  4. Communication around and with the patient throughout the negative effects of hazardous medication and infection prevention and optimal reaction to and prevention of calamities and adverse events.

  5. Risk prevention for the patient in terms of prevention of negative effects of hazardous medication and infection prevention and optimal reaction to and prevention of calamities and adverse events.

  6. Risk prevention in bodily harm in building circulation – especially fall prevention.

These goals are achieved through the implementation of the QPS+ protocol during 2018.  The AAH has instituted a quality improvement project which is clearly leading to clear and verifiable results. The ultimate goal for the AAH is, and has always been, to provide optimal and compassionate care for her patients.

With the implementation of the QPS+ according to the JCI guidelines and international modern values in healthcare such as VBHC, Patient Centered Care, Evidence Based and Data driven Care, the AAH is establishing itself in a stable role as a counterpart in delivering the best cure and care for her patients according to the requirements of a modern healthcare environment.
