WILLEMSTAD - The week opened with sad news after a man lost his life in a tragic car accident in which he became the 9th victim to die in traffic in Curaçao for this year.

Yesterday at around 3.50 am, the police station received a notification that there was a traffic accident in Santa Rosa. Upon arrival the police patrol encountered with a vehicle stuck at the traffic light.

From an investigation carried out by the police on the site, a family car was on ‘Kaminda Rignald S. Recordino’ going in the direction of Sta. Rosaweg. At the height of the gas station, the driver, for reasons unknown, lost control, and struck a traffic light on the right hand side of street. After the vehicle continued rolling out of control it hit another traffic light on the right. The impact was very strong and from that moment it was verified that the victim did not give more signs of life.

At the moment when the paramedics arrived at the site of the event, nothing could be done for the victim. Due to the impact so strong, the driver suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene.

With the equipment of the firefighters, the victim was taken out of the car and on the spot the Doctor of the Police confirmed the death of Gracia Hyppolite, born in Haiti on July 1, 1971. The Traffic Department will continue with the investigation.
