WILLEMSTAD.- The Minister of Economic Development Steven Martina told EXTRA yesterday that during a Council of Ministers "an understanding was reached with different ministries" regarding live music in Pietermaai.

As already known, the owners of the establishments in Pietermaai declared that the police, ordered to stop the live music immediately and logically they consider this very negative for their business in the area.

Minister Martina, who as Minister of Economic Development is concerned about the consequences that this may have on the tourist development of Curaçao. He indicated: "We must reach a solution as quickly as possible regarding this situation in which the police prohibited playing live music in Pietermaai."

According to Martina, this situation is very negative for the economy and if the establishments that play live music cannot do it, it will get worse. Minister Martina is involved in a commission for the development of nightlife in Curaçao.

The National Innovation Party (PIN), on Sunday night, reacted to the news that no live music would be tolerated in the center of the city. The party is strongly convinced of the right that each citizen has to be able to spend a quiet night of sleep and relaxation inside their house. But at the same time, the PIN party of Suzy Camelia-Romer, firmly believes that those who manage nightlife sites also contribute to the social and economic development of Curaçao.

Camelia-Romer stated that she would approach her colleagues in Justice, Traffic, Transportation and Urban Planning as well as Economy to jointly organize and present a management plan on this matter and put an end to this situation in a way that is acceptable for the parties.

Martina explained to EXTRA yesterday that the Ministries involved reached an agreement concerning this situation. Now we have to work on a disposition, said the Minister. Today during the press conference of the Council of Ministers with the theme "Management and Legal Framework for noise norms and noise disturbances, Ministers Martina and Camelia-Romer will give a clear explanation in this regard.
