WILLEMSTAD.- More than four months ago, member of parliament for PAR, Curtley Bishop sent a letter to Finance Minister Kenneth Gijsbertha related to the Chamber of Budget for Curaçao. During the meeting of the Parliamentary Bishop, said that it would be very good idea to anchor in the laws of Curaçao a Financial Supervision body, called the Curaçao Budget Chamber. According to Bishop, the Budget Chamber of Curaçao should help and allow Curaçao to maintain a healthy, sustainable and lasting Public Finances.
Last week, the Board of the Council published another piece of advice on the Budget Chamber Act. Also the first advice was published that was sent to the Government in 2016. This shows that the route to reach an organization such as the Budget Chamber will still take a long time.
The Chamber of Budget of Curaçao is more than 7 years already on the agenda of the Governments of Curaçao and the Parliament of Curaçao of turn. Here he referred to the letter and the agreement of the Government of Curaçao 2017-2021. There was also a meeting of the Finance Committee on April 15, 2014, where deliberations took place with the Minister of Finance, "Plan for the installation of a Budget Chamber", as a concept of Law. On September 15, 2014, the Minister of Finance at that time in a letter to the Parliament of Curaçao wrote that there was a path that will continue to follow with respect to the concept of this law mentioned above.
As it was recently known, the Government of Curaçao and the Board of the Council did not reach an agreement regarding the Government's desire to put in the Law the condition, that only a qualified majority (more than a normal majority) of the parliament can approve and to make changes in the Law. According to the Board of the Council, this is not possible according to the existing State Arrangement.
