WILLEMSTAD.- With the exception of public employees, next Tuesday, March 5, which is the end of the carnival period, will be a normal work day. The Government reported this in an official bulletin yesterday. In its official communiqué the Ministry of General Affairs said that the Government of Curaçao informed that it did not manage to finish the process that it initiated, to be able to declare Tuesday afternoon as an official free day and for that reason it informs that next Tuesday, March 5 It will be a normal work day.
The Government will continue with the process until it is finished, so that within a short time as soon as possible, a decision can be made so that on Tuesday afternoon, the day of the carnival farewell march will be free. This must take place in a maximum period of 6 months.
As is customary in previous years, all the staff of the Government of Curaçao have half of the day off to where their organizations allow it.
In another bulletin, the Government also informed that on Tuesday, March 5, public employees will be free but as far as their services permit, because even that will be possible. There are sections in the government apparatus that provide service 24 hours, since it will be impossible for them to be free that midday / afternoon.
On the other hand it must be said that this whole matter will result a bit in the hands of the Government, decreeing a whole day or half of the general free day. From the beginning there was criticism from the entities such as VBC and also CHATA, since these organizations consider that such a step will have a negative impact on economic activity. If they decree the day off, many businesses must close their doors and lose their sales. What’s more, the Monday after the Great March is already a free day, so it does not make sense for people to go to work only half of the day on Tuesday.
In the same order of ideas, it must be said and be aware that this day and sure the evening of the Farewell March, there are many places where productivity will be relatively low. The businesses that could still enjoy sales are those of consumption, since until the last moment there are many people who seek consumption.
