Willemstad – The driver’s license fraud investigation is ready to be dealt with in the courtroom. A total of 11 defendants will appear June 29, in court
The 11 defendants consist of public officials as well as those who obtained false driver’s licenses who will be present for the case
The investigation on the driver’s license office regarding this fraud began in 2013. The first investigation was in the hands of SOAB, where they discovered irregular situations susceptible to punishment. This resulted in a complaint to the prosecutors’ office.
In 2016 the prosecutors’ office reported that the investigation around the driver’s license office was in its final phase. Both those who sold the document, that is, public officials and those who bought the false licenses were criminally charged.
The National’s detective corpse was the body in charge of the investigation and conducted an interrogation with each person. The prosecutors’ offices indicated that in 2016, in a prudently short time, the case would be closed and go straight to the court. However, they lasted two additional years to close this case and send it to the court.
As explained above, among the suspects there are also several public officials who were responsible for issuing said driver’s licenses in exchange for a payment. Those who bought their driver’s license did not pass the test. Buyers of counterfeit driver’s licenses were also presented to the public ministry.
In March 2015, former minister van der Horst told EXTRA that if it turned out that there were driver’s licenses illegally granted, they would be revoked and that he would inform Dutch officials about this issue so that they could take actions and see if some of these where exchanged to Dutch driver’s licenses.
At the end of last year the government informed that those who did not pass the examination to obtain a driver’s license and nevertheless had this driver’s license by the time they expired would not be renewed again.
As of next Friday, June 29, 11 defendants will be in court for this case of driver’s licenses.
