WILLEMSTAD.- Forty-two players from checkers checkers from more than 10 countries gathered here in Curaçao, for the second open tournament, organized by Curaçao Draughts Federation with director Clifton Agata. Yesterday at midday while a tremendous downpour fell in the downtown area, the official opening took place at the National Library in Scharloo.

As Agata highlighted, what makes this second edition more interesting, is the presence of 6 world championships, the Russian Alexander Schwarzman who will also be in the competition. Next to him, another great one of this sport, who is no other than the Dutch Kees Thijssen titled 5th champion of Holland.

The tournament will take place from November 4th to 12th at the Public Library. For the local Federation it is important that this international competition can help to popularize this great sport of checkers here in Curaçao, particularly among our youth.
