WILLEMSTAD.- Curaçao yesterday celebrated the Day of Autonomy. The Government, among others, organized an official ceremony in Wilhelminaplein. During the ceremony, Minister President Eugenne Rhuggenaath explained that yesterday was a good time to ask: What do we want to achieve as an autonomous country? And how do we unite to achieve the wishes we have for our country?

According to Rhuggenaath: “Autonomy is a civic responsibility and a continuous process in which each of us is part of our country and must be give a daily content.

Rhuggenaath explained that Autonomy is a collective process that we must all aim together as citizens and leaders of all sectors, in order to carry out the Curaçao that we aspire to create. A country and its people that reaches its maximum potential and where all people, without exception, can live a dignified and happy life. “For me, for us as a government this is the main essence of the day of Autonomy. Our Autonomy is not only defined by structures or models. The true definition of Autonomy is not obtained in the state, nor in any law book, nor in any government book, nor in any document within the state constellation.”

Rhuggenaath: “On this day of Autonomy the government clearly wanted to enhance in different ways how we as a people, can work together and carry our own responsibilities in realizing a better country for each one of us.”

Rhuggenaath yesterday said: “Once again, I have seen different civic initiatives, in our neighborhoods that illustrate this. United we are stronger. “Now is the time to make use of that strength. Honor those that already have given the trajectory of autonomy content, we are going to inspire ourselves and be ambitious for our individual tasks and united to achieve with them, a stronger, prosperous, inclusive and lasting country. “We can look back, but we cannot go back. “My proposal for all those who are part of this, young people, seniors, teachers, workers, businessmen, volunteers and politicians, is that we show our collective commitment to give our autonomy real content, according to Rhuggenaath our autonomy is the result of our own courage and ambition, our autonomy is not something determined and anchored, it is something alive and in development, our autonomy needs all our responsibility stability and commitment, our autonomy lives in our thoughts and finds a derivative form of our own actions.”
