WILLEMSTAD.-The President of the the Association of House Doctors, Wallid Elhage explained to EXTRA yesterday, that the home doctors in Curaçao do not agree with the letter that the Social Security Bank (SVB) sent them last May 7th.
In its letter SVB indicates its decision, that as of next January 1, 2020 each home doctor cannot have more than 2500 patients. According to Elhage: “In Curaçao everyone is free to choose their home doctors”. What is called: “Free Choice of Doctor”. That principle is sacred. You touch this at the moment when you prevent people from going to the doctor of your choice. “According to Elhage, SVB cannot avoid this rule. Elhage explained that as President of the Association of Home Doctors, he agrees in introducing quality guarantees within our system of care. “But this has nothing to do with the number of patients. But among other things, with the way a home doctor is organizing his night service and if a doctor’s office works as it should. “According to Wallid Elhage, as part of the construction of the new Hospital, the Association works on different routes and projects to improve our system of care. “But the maximization of the offices does not make any sense”.
According to Elhage, the Association of Home Doctors, deliberated for a long time with SVB to reach an agreement regarding the maximum number of patients for each doctor. As is known, SVB pays a doctor 17.50 Naf per month for each patient assigned to SVB.
