WILLEMSTAD.- On Sunday morning, the Hospital St. Elizabeth was in total darkness, when there was a problem with the electricity. ‘The Calamity Team of SEHOS (composed of 7 people) and technicians yesterday at dawn were activated immediately. They were in the Hospital and quickly managed to monitor the situation when Aqualectra could supply the area of Otrobanda and Rif with electricity’. According to the Head of the Calamity Team Dr. Sandra Cova: “This team constantly trains to know how to act during a calamity and our staff at all times, is prepared by itself perhaps a situation like this occurs.”

During the press conference were present: Dr. Arnolfo Trappenberg (who is the Acting Director of SEHOS), Dr. Sandra Cova (Head of the Calamity Team) and Aissa Snijders (Coordinator of the Calamity Team).

Cova explained that after an hour and a half SEHOS was able to get back on to the Aqualectra network again. ‘Everything was good’, as the Calamity Team trained. The calamity plan was activated immediately through our staff. Everything was implemented immediately. Cova explained that she was very happy that everything had gone as they trained. At the same time, Cova explained that she was also happy that the electricity returned in less than an hour and a half. After that for 3 hours and a half, the battery of some generators, would be empty, said Cova. “In the Intensive Care Department there were two patients who got respiration assistance’.

They felt absolutely nothing of the problem with the electricity. We are satisfied with how the situation was yesterday. But I have to say that you always have to anticipate when something may go contrary to what was expected. But this is precisely the function of the Calamity Team. Try to always have ways to solve s situation if something happens. For this reason, the entire Calamity Team was present, ensuring that there is no “delay” in patient care. That is our priority”.
