WILLEMSTAD.- The Government got one more week to answer the letter from the Financial Supervision College (Cft). So Finance Minister Kenneth Gijsbertha said yesterday. As is well known, Cft over two weeks ago gave the Government of Curaçao time until March 6 to present solutions for a sum of at least 127 million guilders in order to close the budget deficit of 2019. In concordance and according to Cft, the new date to answer is until March 13.

Gijsbertha: “We wait for the projection of the 2019 budget that took place from a commission, now we have the report and the recommendations, and once we receive the recommendations we can get everything we need to talk to all the interested parties in this case. He explained that in the first instance, the Government spoke with the Council of Ministers, then spoke with the coalition parties, and yesterday evening, Gijsbertha gave a presentation at VBC and the Chamber of Commerce together with the two central syndicates that form Part of the National Dialogue Plan This next Monday, he will speak at a public meeting in Parliament During the meeting, Gijsbertha will present the situation as it is currently and what were the recommendations that were received and which the Government will take to implement them.

‘To ensure that we can get a budget that complies first with our accounting laws that is equal to the laws of Rft and Cft, which means we must have a balanced budget. Gijsbertha explained that this is not easy. There are many challenges. The Government has done many exercises in the last two years. In the last two years, the Government has lowered the budget of Curaçao enormously. But because our entries were left behind in 2017 and 2018, we have to make adjustments in 2019. When we find support in our community, we will present it. Reasons that drive us to make changes in our budget, says Minister Gijsbertha.
