WILLEMSTAD.- The Council of Ministers yesterday had an extraordinary meeting with its advisors and all the general secretaries of the different Ministries. The goal of the meeting was to deliberate on how to lower the budget deficit and set a position in order to comply with the demands of the Council of Financial Supervision (CFT).

“During the meeting all the actions necessary were reviewed,” Minister-President Eugene Rhuggennaath explained. “We have set guidelines to complete so we can inform the CFT.”

As you know the Council of Financial Supervision, sent a letter to Finance Minister Kenneth Gijsbertha last week. CFT is very concerned about the financial situation. And in this letter, Finance Minister Kenneth Gijsbertha was urged to draw up a list of measures in a short time.

The Government of Curaçao has until September 12 to reply to the letter to Cft. The extraordinary meeting yesterday had this letter as its only item on the agenda.

According to Rhuggenaath during the meeting yesterday the ministers contributed to ideas: “With this we will make adjustments that will have a structural impact, in order to control our expenses but also analyze the way to increase income and establish our public finances in a balanced way.”

Rhuggenaath explained that there are different dividends that the Government has to finalize. “We have aspects of the expenses, such as subsidies, operational expenses and efficiency. It is important to finish them, in order to demonstrate to CFT that they were not only budgeted, but also as actions for each Ministry. We are very serious about the execution. ”

Rhuggenaath: “We are ready to inform and talk with the Netherlands about the approach of CFT. We must have a comprehensive plan, and now we will work on the economic part, to see how we can find space to make direct investments.

Related to the trip announced to discuss these issues with Minister President Mark Rutte in the Netherlands, he noted that nothing is planned yet. According to Rhuggenaath: “We are focused on complying with the CFT guidelines. We are taking this seriously, and then we will see how we will establish a conversation in the Netherlands.”
