WILLEMSTAD.- The Central Statistical Office (CBS) yesterday presented the results of the survey referring to the count of empty houses that CBS had in 2017. Rene Gabriela of CBS explained that between 2001 and 2016, the community of Curaçao grew with more than 33,000 people. The number of houses between 2001 and 2017 grew by more than 26,000. At the same time, the number of empty houses fell, except the last few years. With more than 5,000 thousand empty homes in 2011 there are almost 3,200 empty homes in 2017. Gabriela is very happy with the result of the survey. But he admitted that there is still more need to continue with this investigation.

The presentation of the figures yesterday took place, in the presence of different people who are active as sellers of real estate, but also in front of the Director of Fundashon Kas Popular Arthur Con and the Minister of Traffic, Transport and Urban Planning, Zita Jesús Leíto. During the presentation, all attendees deliberated on the consequences of the figures, among others, regarding the role played by the Government on the housing market.
