WILLEMSTAD.- Michele Russel-Capriles was sworn in yesterday as Acting Governor of Curaçao: “I am deeply honored to take on these tasks, to occasionally perform the duties of a Governor, it is an honor that I take very seriously; Russel-Capriles expressed very excited. “

Article 2 of the Statute describes the role of the Governor. As is known, this consists of two parts. In the first place, the Governor represents the King in Curaçao and therefore is the head of the Government of Curaçao. Based on the Regulation, the Governor of Curaçao also monitors, as Kingdom organism, General Interests of the Kingdom, guarantees the implementation of the Laws of the Kingdom, eventual General Measures of the Government of the Kingdom and International Treaties, besides supervising and procuring that all this is fulfilled.

Michele Russel-Capriles declared before the Parliament yesterday, that as Governor, she is willing to carry out both tasks that are under the Governor’s mandate, based on the Constitution and the Regulations of the Governor’s Work System. She promised that it will be based on a balance between the national interests of Curaçao and the interests of the Kingdom. She assured that she will always act in good faith, will abide by what the Law prescribes and will monitor the general welfare of the people of Curaçao.

“I am grateful that your Majesty, the King, has appointed me, I consider it an honor to represent him, and I appreciate the confidence and recommendation by the Council of  Ministers of Curaçao and the nomination of the Kingdom Ministers deposited in me, for me to be your acting Governor. “

Something, over 25 years ago that Michele Russel-Capriles set foot in that room for the first time, at that time, as a member of the Parliament. She was young, inexperienced and in many ways naive and confident. But she was very encouraged by the fact that she loves our island and wanted to contribute to its development. After 4 years she decided to retire from politics, not because she did not appreciate it, but because she noticed that she still lacked much preparation.

“My years in the Parliament taught me how our country works in constitutional and political terms, what basic rights and duties as people are anchored in the Law and how people should be centered.” Over the past two decades I got to know the history of our country I also learned to look at the problems that our country faces in the socio-economic and cultural-historical context, and I was able to experience, support and help strengthen the art and culture of our country, so the Interim Governor pointed out.

On her way she met people from different backgrounds, and she worked and cooperated with them. Frequently she was in contact with ideas, theories, philosophies and new facts. These experiences, along with the challenges she faced on a personal level, meant that today she could enter this path with confidence and with this, she could feel reinforced.

She accepts this position, because she feels ready to fulfill these tasks, but it also has to do with her children. My agenda is that: “I wish for my children, just like any other son of Curaçao would want to return to Curaçao, but for this to be possible, it is important that this island can offer a good climate of life and work, with perspectives I want to contribute to this as a citizen and now as Acting Governor “, this is what Ms. Russel-Capriles.
