WILLEMSTAD – The new contract that the government closed with PAC (the instance that manages parking in the center of the city) has caused great disgust in the DMO organization of Punda and SKO of Otrobanda, and they have asked to have a look at this contract. That organization has pointed out among others that the parking system in the center of the city is not going well.

DMO and SKO, the Law Office of HBN Law sent a letter to Minister Zita Jesús-Leito to obtain clarity regarding the agreements between PAC and VVRP. This letter questions more about the legal basis of formulating a contract with a party, which for the validity of its management must come to an end. In the letter, the lawyer asks if the minister shares the opinion that for 10 years PAC has not transferred money, then this should lead to a PAC exclusion and not to a new contract.

DMO regrets the Minister’s expression that the association of shop owners is adding fuel to the fire. This statement shows that the Minister considers the issue of parking an unimportant issue, and this is one of the reasons why our city center is going very badly.

For many years now DMO and SKO is dealing with the problem of parking without any notice of movement from the government since the new cabinet sat down. Regrettably, non-profit organizations have realized that only the pressure via the media gives results and produces movements in the cabinet.

DMO and SKO want transparency. It can not be so, that without further explanations a contract is concluded with one of the parties that in itself recognizes that it has never complied with the conditions established in the original agreements. Instead of punishing the organization for this, a new contract is simply concluded with them.
