WILLEMSTAD – Since last week, during the night hours, the Multidisciplinary Team, consisting of police officers and MEO, executed controls on different establishments in the Pietermaai area.

The Head of the Inspection Department sr. Ronny Cornelis, mentioned last week that there were some problems in the area of Pietermaai because once again, merchants opted to take chairs and tables and place them on the sidewalk of the street.

Apart from this, also for those living in the area, among others those who live in the building where Emmaschool previously was, complained about the discomfort caused by the sound.

A few days ago, an order was issued to different establishments of Nieuwestraat to stop live music. This has to do with the claim of people living in the neighborhood of the loud sound.

According to the owner of Mundo Bizarro, Wim Boereveen, the attitude of the police was not correct. He wants to go to the Court to obtain his right to continue organizing activities with live music. Other owners of establishments in the center of the city also do not agree with the way the authorities have acted.

According to Enrico Stenacker of Bar 27, his establishment has all the necessary permits to organize live music. According to Stenacker, Curaçao should be proud that different establishments in the City Center organize live music, since according to their opinion, “this contributes to the tourist product that Curaçao has and deserves”.
