WILLEMSTAD.- 31 Dutch Caribbean nurses, including 10 from Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) received their Basic Acute Care Training (BAZ) certificate. The training program makes the Dutch Caribbean islands more flexible and can therefore respond adequately to acute care situations, such as a pandemic. This is also a significant achievement, considering the nurses had to go through 6 months of intensive training, while working through the pandemic.
These 31 Dutch Caribbean nurses form part of approximately 100 participants in the Caribbean Health
Academy (CARIBHA) training program. The training was commissioned and funded by the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS), and the VUmc Academy, which trains nurses in collaboration with hospitals in Curaçao, Aruba, Bonaire, St. Maarten and St. Eustatius.
The speed with which such a large group is trained in both Dutch and English in a short period of time is unique, and the commitment of the participants and their supervisors is a major achievement.
